Direct Primary Care
Dr Sana Haq understands that a problem that likely didn’t develop overnight will not be solved in an 8 minute office visit. Members enjoy up to 60 minutes per visit with Dr Haq. If more time is needed, she can extend that or offer another visit shortly after.
Medicine is not black and white. There are many factors that go into workup and treatment considerations for all health conditions. Dr Haq works with your personal history and formulates an individualized treatment plan with you.
Dr Haq is thorough with gathering data, workup and patient education. Taking the time to actually talk to patients helps to understand what truly is needed to come to a conclusion and a solution.

Over the past few months you develop some health concerns that you’d like to address with your doctor. You send her a message through the patient portal and don’t get a response for a few days. eventually you get a response from the nurse asking you to come in person to go more in depth with your issues. It’s 2 weeks from now. When you finally do have an appointment, do you actually see your own physician? You wish you could have done a telemedicine visit first, but that is not offered at your doctors office, and now you have to take the day off work to see someone who isn’t familiar with your medical history.
The day of the appointment arrives and you have to wait long in the waiting room. You are in luck, you will be seeing her that day. Your doctor is overbooked or has short appointment slots. You are unsure how much you will actually be able to discuss with her.
Your doctor walks in and you tell her what’s bothering you. She tells you unfortunately the appointment is only 15 minutes long (unfortunately, she is not in charge of her schedule nor can she limit how many patients she sees) and she can deal with only one problem today and that you will need to reschedule the rest for another time, it might be with someone else. Again, that appointment isn’t for another few weeks. You are unable to tell her in detail all that is going on and get told to do bloodwork, exercise, sleep better and eat right. The bloodwork is expensive and you still don’t have answers. You don’t know where to start with lifestyle changes and your doctor refers you out to a nutritionist or physical therapist (both which may not be covered by your insurance) as she doesn’t have time to explain what all that means. Sometimes you both agree to medication to bring you some relief, but that doesn’t address the underlying problem.
This appointment did not seem to help you so you don’t schedule on the follow up. You also don’t see a point in making another appointment to go over your other concerns. You also do not want to keep paying out of pocket for labs, imaging or medications. You put your health on the back burner until the problem grows and takes it toll on you, making your seemingly smaller issues, larger more expensive ones years later.
Direct Primary Care (DPC) is a model of medicine which is becoming more popular amongst physicians, especially primary care. In the DPC model, there is no middle man. The patient pays the doctor a low monthly fee to receive better access to the physician. Because there is no insurance to deal with, the doctor has more face-to-face time to spend with the patient. More time with the patient means more questions, more answers. If work up is needed, DPC members often have access to low cost bloodwork.
The result: a happier and healthier patient who can actually reach their doctor directly and a physician who has time to spend practicing medicine the way they envisioned.
